Eugénio de Almeida Foundation
Deus, Labor et Constantia
The Eugénio de Almeida Foundation is a privately-owned charity, based in the city of Évora. Its statutary aims are cultural, educational, social and spiritual, focussed on enhancing human achievement and overall development of the region of Évora. Bequeathed by Vasco Maria Eugénio de Almeida, its statutes date 12 August, 1963, and were published on 10 October of the same year.
The Foundation meets the aims of its Statutes by creating its own initiatives, exclusively or in partnership, while also supporting projects from other private or public organisations whose intentions meet the charity’s criteria.
In order to carry out its Mission, the Foundation works closely with both Portuguese and international partners. The increasing involvement of the Foundation within the community has resulted in a plethora of projects noted for their excellence, innovation and quality, which have had a positive impact on those who have benefited from them.
The charity’s main assets, bequeathed by the Founder to provide the funds for its work, are a number of country estates in the borough of Évora farmed by the Foundation with livestock, crops and wine and olive oil production.
Continuing the region’s age-old connection with wine, the Foundation has a longstanding history of winegrowing. Vines have been grown at the Casa Agricola Eugenio de Almeida since the end of the 19th century.
